Approaching health and environments of working people through the eyes of medical science, occupational physicians play extremely important roles in the 21st century for several reasons, including their support for the development and revitalization of industry. The School of Medicine trains occupational physicians with rich humanity that enable them to regard medical science more deeply and from wider perspectives in industrial society.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the school of medicine has been formed for the purpose of training medical doctors and researchers specializing in occupational and environmental health who have mastered fundamental knowledge, skill and ethics in medical science, and who are capable of contributing to society with deep humanity and firm sense of duty.
The revised curriculum starts in the 2004 academic year and the graduates can acquire the qualification for occupational physician after completion of clinical training. This curriculum applies eqully to the undergraduate students who enrolled before 2004.

Features

  • The contents taught in basic and biomedical sciences are closely oriented to medical science, encouraging the students to be well-motivated to medical studies. Seminars in basic sciences are conducted in small classes to promote interactive education.
  • Courses in basic medical sciences are designed to be closely related with each other as well as courses in clinical medicine. Students learn normal structure and function and pathophysiology. Integrated lectures are provided in the sixth year to make what they have learned more systematic as well as give advanced education.
  • Clinical medical sciences are taught as integrated lectures. To provide systematic and synthetic edcation on diseases and illnesses, the lectures are conducted in coordination with clinical system lectures in the third and fourth years, bedside learning in the fifth year, and basic medicine in the sixth year.
  • Our edcation promotes interest in cooupational and environmental health and careers as physicians in this field. The six-year education enables students to qualify as an occupational health physician by completing clinical training after graduation.

Programs for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education

In addition to general medical science education, subjects related to occupational and environmental health are taught at the undergraduate level. In postgraduate education, courses are provided in the Three-month Course in Fundamental Occupational Health, including specialized lectures and practice related to occupational health, followed by postgraduate occupational health training courses. Thus, an integrated occupational health education is provided throughout the undergraduate and postgraduate stages.
