University Hospital Clinical

There are outpatient departments and wards in the 10-story building facing to the front gate that is wide from west to east.

The west wing of the building is called ward A. The east wing is called ward B. The ward for neurology and psychosomatic medicine on 8th floor in ward B is called ward 8B. There are 40 beds for patients with neurological or psychosomatic disease. Four single rooms, one twin room, and one recovery room for three patients are for serious cases. It is difficult to accept emergency cases sufficiently, because chronic serious patients occupy almost all the rooms.

Division of PSM

In the clinical setting, psychosomatic medicine physicians mainly treat patients with physical diseases affected by psychological factors, i.e., psychosomatic diseases, in the Mental Health Care Center.

Such psychosomatic diseases and medical conditions include: tension-type headache, migraine, insomnia, essential hypertension, white-coat hypertension, coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, orthostatic dysregulation, psychogenic vomiting, diffuse esophageal spasm, gastric and duodenal ulcers, functional dyspepsia, biliary dyskinesia, irritable bowel syndrome, bronchial asthma, psychogenic cough, hyperventilation syndrome, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, and so on. We treat patients with psychotherapy and relaxation training as well as medications. Non-verbal psychotherapy and biofeedback therapy are also applied if necessary. When physical symptoms are thought to be due to mood disorders or somatoform disorders, patients might be referred to psychiatrists in the Center.

Registration of Mental Health Care Center (outpatient service) is open 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. Inpatient service is also available.
