The award was founded in 1988 and it is awarded to a publication offering the most practical utility in occupational health among the past year's publications within NIOSH.

The paper, which is based on interviews with approx. 1300 long-haul truck drivers, was published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine. It is expected to greatly aid the promotion of occupational health among long-haul truck drivers.
