2016 [16th] Implementation of SAKURA Exchange Program in Science supported by JST (Posted on Nov. 21, 2016)

<Implementation of SAKURA Exchange Program in Science supported by JST>

Under SAKURA Exchange Program in Science, Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), UOEH hosted nine graduate students and one faculty from Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, China from November 6 to 12. This is the second time to welcome the academy under this program.

With the theme "Japan-China interaction through searching a common ground of Disaster Medicine and Occupational Health", the program offered lectures by UOEH faculties, Prof. Kohriyama of Emergency Life-Saving Technic Academy of Kyushu, Dr. Taniguchi of University Hospital of Kumamoto University as well as experts of National Institute for Minamata Disease. Lectures based on Japanese disaster history attracted much attention by the students. Many questions raised from the students proved their eagerness to learn a lot through this program. Including a meeting with our foreign students, visiting some cultural sites in the neighborhood gave the students deeper understandings and interests to Japan and Japanese culture.

Although it was only for a week, it was indeed a meaningful program to understand each other better. We sincerely hope this program gives the young researchers future opportunities to visit Japan and collaborate with Japanese researchers. And finally, collaboration crossing the borders of institutions and countries.

Lastly, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to JST's warm support and kind cooperation by the lecturers.
