Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Occupational and Environmental Health (UOEH), was established in 1978 by the Occupational Health Promotion Foundation which was a fringe organization of the Ministry of Labor at that time. The Rehabilitation Center of the University Hospital was also opened in 1979. The purpose of establishing UOEH was the development of the sciences concerning occupational and environmental health and education for medical students and occupational doctors. The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine devotes itself to the field of rehabilitation medicine related to occupational and environmental health as well as general rehabilitation for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputation, post-polio syndrome and other diseases.
