2017 [16th] Implementation of SAKURA Exchange Program in Science supported by JST (Posted on Dec. 19, 2017)
<Implementation of SAKURA Exchange Program in Science supported by JST>
With the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science (Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science) supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), UOEH hosted ten students and one faculty from Fiji National University from December 4 to 10. This is the third time this program was implemented at UOEH.
Under the theme "Exchange of occupational health information between Japan and Fiji", the program offered lectures in the field of occupational health by UOEH faculty member and visits to cultural sites in Kitakyushu city. The students were eager to learn from the lectures based on Japan's experience and especially enjoyed their stress-check at the Center for Stress-related Diseases Control and Prevention as well as the tour at the Kyushu Occupational Health Center. The interaction with UOEH students at the lunch meeting and the city tour gave the students opportunities to further their understanding and interest in Japan and Japanese culture. During the program, they were able to experience snow for the first time in their lifetime. At the end of the program, the students told us that they enjoyed the differences we have between the two countries, and they would love to come back to Japan in order to study occupational health. We sincerely hope this program promotes the young students' continuous interest in Japan, and finally to bear a fruit as them coming back to Japan to study or other forms of collaboration between the countries.
Lastly, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to JST's warm support and kind cooperation by everyone involved in this program.
